In 2019 I found myself on the verge of a spiritual awakening, completely unaware of just what exactly was happening, but being driven by an unknown force to step into ritually held spiritual space. As a person who had been functionally agnostic my entire adult life this was particularly uncomfortable and I had truly no clue where to start, and yet start I must as the calling was becoming unavoidable. By fate a google search brought me to Portia and her former uptown healing space Tall Reeds Healing Arts. From the very beginning Portia was welcoming and kind with a mischievous smile and just enough vulnerability to be disarming while also masterfully holding a container for the space and time. I began by attending small support group sharing circles and soon found myself attending a 4 part ancestor reverence class where we dressed altars, called the directions, and honored those who have come before - not just human, but the more than human. My world was expanding and Portia was a lamp in the dark, a guide to opening the aperture of my senses and developing the somatic understanding of what it means to be in connection with spirit. Over time I have shared space with Portia in many ways, often through her exceptional ritual and ceremonial containers. As the years have passed my personal path has widened and my own medicine sweetened as my spiritual awakening has taken me to step into relationship with plant medicine and indigenous traditional healing spaces as well as western magical practice and mythosomatics. As anyone who works in these ways knows, magic changes you. Ceremony changes you. The powers move through your body and changes how it works. Having a healer on your team who understands that is absolutely essential to an active practitioner of the magical and ceremonial arts. Portia is magically operant, mythologically literate and works directly with plant medicines shamanically and ceremonially- a very unique and specialized set of talents. I have come to her for integration sessions over the years when spirit has blown me open and brought my next level of initiation full throttle -and I am so grateful to have had her experience and expertise available to once again be lamplight in the dark. With one foot in the material world and one foot in the otherworld, Portia is able to facilitate grounded healing sessions that go so far beyond what traditional western practitioners or their TCM counterparts are able to- her sessions are somatic and fully embodied and in full cooperation with the animate cosmos that surrounds us. For those on a spiritual awakening, those whose initiation has gone full throttle, and those who are actively engaging with the Great Mystery and all her splendor, Portia is a truly gifted resource to have on your team. I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since I started working with Portia. I had just gotten laid off from my corporate job of 17 years. I was working toward certification for ancestral lineage healing, but I felt that there was something else for me to do, but the what and how were escaping me. Portia taught a workshop in 2020, The Witch Wound, that I attended. She has a wonderful, grounded presence. She walks what she teaches, articulates in a digestible way and has reverence for the lineages she works with. I continue to learn so much from her. We are very lucky in the Twin Cities to have a teacher, practitioner, and healer like Portia as a resource to work with. I have seen Portia for services, classes, and ceremony events for more than 10 years now and I have witnessed her continue to offer new and relevant programming and grow to be an advanced expert in what she does. I recently decided to apprentice with Portia for a short 3-session series focused on holding ceremonial space, cultivating magical group containers, and becoming a ceremony facilitator. This is a big topic and will likely take a lifetime to feel comfortable in. However, I feel that my sessions with Portia provided significant value and knowledge on practical and technical aspects but also provided larger kernels of wisdom that I can continue to explore for years. Each session started with a summary of what we covered previously, then involved a key new lesson or practice, and ended with homework of concepts or actions to explore for the future session. I came away from the apprenticeship with an entire plan for a ceremony that is ready to execute, in addition to feeling a deepening in my personal relationship to Spirit and a greater understanding of it means to be called to the role of a ceremony facilitator. What I appreciate about Portia is that she has the edge of bringing an academic, scholarly-type rigor to the realm of spirituality which is often an unregulated space of practitioners that offer services with very little to no training. Her depth of experience translates well in sessions because she is readily able to cite credible sources for her teachings, explain complex topics in a myriad of ways, and weaves in multiple models of spirituality seamlessly to provide a tailored approach to me, the client. Portia has been and continues to be a "Key Master" for me in my life. I give her credit for turning me on to herbal wisdom (she introduced me to my very first essential oil experience!), introducing me to the path of the Divine Feminine with her Moon circle series in 2016, and for giving me the language and teachings to explore my relationship to animism and the practice that I now call my spirituality. ~ T. I have worked with Portia since November 2021, remotely over Zoom. Despite the time difference (I am in the UK) and geographical distance, we developed a solid and trusting connection over the months. Portia is highly skilled with a broad and deep range of experiences, which comes through in her capacity to hold a 'both/and' worldview which is so vital in our age of critique, shame, prejudice etc (often held against ourselves). She is deeply present with the cycles of nature, humans, and creativity, which gives her an ability to hold an extremely grounded space, her guidance clearly rooted in ancestral knowledge and understanding. Portia's presence and input is reassuring because it is evident that that reassurance is coming from a place beyond the individual, flowing freely out of the cosmic tapestry. I always leave Portia's sessions feeling grounded and positive. In my wobbliest moments, I would begin some sessions having a full-on mental/physical meltdown, and by the end, even if I didn't feel great exactly, I would feel reassured and more trusting of the process, rather than feeding the demons that wanted me to think there was something desperately wrong with me! Portia also helped me to become aware of my tendency to flee when presented with support or intimacy. She encouraged me to become aware of the sensations/experiences I associate with 'leaning in', which helped me to understand the pattern and begin to - gently - learn to welcome intimacy, community, and joy. In recent weeks, I have felt a tangible somatic shift in my experience of receiving support, and for the first time in my adult memory, imbued with a sense that everything is okay! As in, *everything really is okay*! Wow! Portia is a gem and a balm in our modern cultures bereft of elders. It has been an honour to work with her. ~ K. K.

I have received so much from my sessions with Portia in such a brief time. I can’t begin to quantify it, but I know the floor has moved deeper, and I am swimming somewhere different. I think Portia is very special in the way she holds space. I did a healing session with Portia and found myself singing in my car on the way home...from a place deeper than I'd ever experienced before. It felt like my voice was coming from something other than *me*--somewhere deeper, even more important, than little *me*. 10/10 Where do I even begin.. Portia literally saved my life. I had my first depersonalization/derealization panic attacks when I was in grad school. Had no idea what they even were. My life felt like a movie/video game. I can’t explain how much she has helped me. 2 months of daily panic attacks and she treated me in one session. I literally saw Portia only one time. This was in 2016. Never had a panic attack since. I thought I’d need months worth of therapy/treatments to get me back to normal. She has such a gift. She is the closest thing to heaven. I kind of knew what I was looking for when I sought out Portia, but not really. This IS one of those types of work that treats the root of things rather than just the symptoms (though it’s excellent for that as well!). It’s comprehensive and all encompassing and has really, for someone who is not very ‘in his body’, changed the way I experience my depression and life. Energy and how it lives and moves (or gets stuck) in our bodies is a very real thing. The thing I *love* about Portia is that she can be as ‘out there’ as she can be scientific in her explanation of her approach; she’s very intuitive, open minded, and generally a powerhouse of information and expertise and practice. Any hesitation or skepticism I’ve had (which has been minimal, but still) is erased the moment I get up on the table. And when you visit with Portia you are truly getting a full self work up. She formulates a treatment plan based upon what’s occurring in your life, relationships, body, energy, and spirit. And on top of that, she constantly customizes and revises your treatment plan to address your needs as they vary.
