Scinnlæce means "witch", or more accurately "veiled healer", in Old English. I chose this name for my artistic project, because I am indeed a witchy healer person of northern/western European descent, interested in the unseen worlds.
All my songs are healing spells and enchantments.
They have been written over a course of 10+ years in cathartic ritual as my attempt to understand, honor, and soothe my source wounds.
The album "Deer and the Snow" is a journey into the wild landscape of my inner world - with each song moving through and healing another layer of the multidimenional Self.
I explore unfolding and spiraling themes of opening to mystery, prayer, transformation, visioning, life and death, illusions and fantasies, destruction of bondage and release, love that exists beyond time and space, surrendering to isolation, forgiveness, acceptance, and ultimately discovering freedom.
Drawing on the influences of Gregorian chant, 60's folk, American gothic, medieval minstrel music, and experimental ambient soundscapes - the music and lyrics within each song are meant to haunt you - invoking images, memories, feelings, and sensations from beyond the veil.
Listen with full attention and you will be lured into an altered stated of consciousness in which deeper inner truths will be revealed to you.
Sounds include:
Vocals, various electric guitars, electric bass guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, synthesizer, harmonium, singing bowls, ting shaws, violin, bodhran drum, handmade frame drum, tambourine, rattles, hulusi, frogs from the St. Croix river, waves from lake Michigan, and thunder from my back yard.
From the bottom of my being, I want to thank my ancestors and guides, all my loved ones, the spirits of land and place, and everyone who listens with receptive ears and shares these songs with the wider world - for helping support me in this creative birthing and releasing. Many blessings to you. And so it is.
